What is happening with sports halls in Albania?

Sports Palaces are public works with a significant impact on the urban structure of our cities and closely linked to collective memory. Their modernization does not justify the transformation of their character and architectural features, much less their demolition.

The Sports Palace in Tirana, designed by Koço Miho in the early 1960s; the Sports Palace in Durrës, designed by Sokrat Mosko in 1969–1971; and the Sports Palace in Korça, designed by Mauricio Bego in 1973–1976, are works that deserve to be preserved as an important part of Albania's 20th-century architectural, cultural and sports heritage.

Their adaptation to contemporary needs must be carried out while preserving the architectural integrity of the work and without compromising its fundamental values. Interventions must preserve the original features, materials and architectural expression of the buildings. Any transformation must be necessary, minimal and, where possible, reversible, in accordance with the principles of preserving authenticity.

Modernization should ensure the continuity of these works, not the loss of their architectural identity.
